Plaid Cymru launched its new website this week as part of the ongoing process of updating the party's image.

The makeover of the site follows in the footsteps of the party's new logo and even the introduction of signature music.

Websites are increasingly seen as an important means of reaching out to otherwise disaffected young voters, particularly with the advent of political blogging.

And their role in political communication has came under the media spotlight recently following the launch of David Cameron's "webcameron" site during the Conservative Party conference.

Helen Mary Jones AM, Plaid Cymru's director of communications, said, "The internet plays an integral role in the field of political communications.

"The development of such an excellent website shows that we are serious about fighting to win the next National Assembly elections.

"The site will improve our campaign capacity, and gives a clear indication how Plaid has professionalised and is serious about forming the next Government of Wales."

The site has been designed and developed by Welsh firm Imaginet and aims to provide regular news updates, policy and campaign information. Party political broadcasts will also be downloadable from the site.

A spokesman for the party said, "The website will also be a valuable asset to Plaid's campaigning ability. Campaign managers and candidates for the forthcoming National Assembly elections will be able to access campaign-related materials on a members-only area."
